a solo exhibition of paintings, metal and sculpture of Ventsislav Markov
19 September – 09 October 2019
Opening reception – Thursday, 19 September 2019 , 6:30 PM
There is one favorite moment in the work process of the gallerist - the moment when it’s time to arrange the artworks for a new exhibition on the walls of the gallery, looks at the entire exposition as a whole and realizes with awe that the artist has surpassed themselves. Then from within, from the heart, there is joy, which turns into delight, then intoxication, and finally the gallerist is ready to sing, to jump, to shout “Bravo! Bravo!”. But most of all, the gallerist wants to grab all the works and keep them all to themself… Or at least this is the case with me! This happened at the Largo Art Gallery during the arrangement of the first exposition of the autumn exhibition season "Sea stories" by the young talented Ventsislav Markov. Ventsi, one of the ten recipients of the prize “Artist of the Decade 2008 – 2018 of Largo Art Gallery”, will present himself with paintings, metal and sculpture. The theme of the exhibition is influenced by the Varna coast and the sea, which we will soon have to say goodbye to as the fall season nears. In the form of sculptural artworks we will be greeted by seagulls, flapping their wings at us and fish, casually floating in the air next to them. And in the paintings we will notice that Ventsi cleverly used unconventional materials such as metal to give relief, depth, different shapes and an interesting connection between the canvas and the sculptures.
The artist graduated with honors from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, specializing in “Metal” and is most often presented with metal and bronze sculptures. Works, emotional and expressive, sometimes sculpted to the finest detail, sometimes shaped as if by light-hearted determination, raw and bold, but always masterfully crafted with the passion and soul of a true artist. In his current solo exhibition at Largo Art Gallery, Ventsislav has prepared larger-sized sculptural metal compositions as well as small, cavalry works of bronze.
But the big surprise for the audience, not only for Varna, but also for fans of the gallery from all over Bulgaria, will be Ventsi’s paintings. The oil-filled canvases are uniquely interwoven with images and objects made of metal. What is important and very interesting here is not only the creative thinking of the author but it is how with metallic layers and reliefs he had portrayed in his paintings extremely soft, delicate and delicate objects - sea waves and foam on their ridge, clouds in the sky, hovering over the sea, seagulls, fluttering wings in flight or reflections of the sailboat floating on the sea surface.
There is a lot to know about Markov’s cavalry sculptures. He is the creator of Varna's favorite Dolphin lovers on the Largo near the Festival Complex. His artworkrs can be found in many Bulgarian homes as bronze sculptures depicting Icarus, St. George, fishermen, boats, horses on the run or bulls preparing for battle, goldfish or more abstract compositions. In this exposition, the artist will display a very poetic sculpture depicting sea horses and a bronze sailboat, which seems to have been captured at a time when it is struggling with the stormy sea. For the fans of his sculptures, Ventsi has prepared five large-format compositions, part of which will easily unravel the marine subjects - a seagull in flight, a board with a keenly "flying" fish, and a work reminiscent of a fishing net caught at the time of its cast in the sea.
In order not to reveal all the surprises, we stop here and invite you to meet live with Ventsislav Markov at the opening of his exhibition "Sea stories" on September 19th at 6:30 pm at Largo Art Gallery, Varna, 8 Han Krum Str. The exhibition runs until October 09.
You can read more about Ventsislav in section "Authors" on the gallery's website.
