an exhibirion of graphics by Jochen Kublik, Germany
From 25 November - 14 December 2022
OPENING RECEPTION- Friday, 25 November 2022, 18:00
From November 25, 2022, Largo Art Gallery will present for the first time in Bulgaria a solo exhibition by the German artist Jochen Kublik. The exhibition is called "Globretrotting" and shows 45 graphics, exlibrises and drawings of the prominent German artist, created in the last 14 years.
What inspires Jochen Kublik to do the exhibition?
The title of the exhibition directly refers to the artist's travels. Kublik himself says: "Several works are related to China, some are based on themes from Greek mythology. I love traveling physically in this world and I am a traveler in my mind, through my fantasy. Some things in my graphics have wheels to express movement or that you're on your way…”
Kublik, in fact, like any good contemporary artist, is a citizen of the world. His travels, related to his many exhibitions, as well as projects and residencies abroad, give him the opportunity to communicate with colleagues and connoisseurs from all over the world and to experience foreign cultures and ways of life, and then turn his impressions on paper.
What will viewers see in his current exhibition?
In the current exhibition, viewers and connoisseurs of graphics will be able to see works from several different cycles that Kublik developed in recent years - a cycle dedicated to the natural elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water), a cycle dedicated to the beautiful and strong women of the Greek mythology (Aphrodite, Helen, Persephone, the Amazon Penthesilea, Psyche), but also the dangerous women of antiquity such as Medea and Medusa. Jochen will also show three series of 12 bookplates each, dedicated to different themes such as "Alice in Wonderland" and "Chinese Zodiac".
Particularly impressive are Kublik's graphics, dedicated to his interests in Chinese mythology, whose characters are fabulous animals, dragons, unicorns. In many of the works of the German artist, characters are various animals - birds and fish, giraffes and rhinoceroses, penguins, elephants and rabbits. Kublik has given his characters human features- they travel, have fun, set off with their suitcases, aboard flying fish to different, fabulous worlds. Thus, not only the artist, but also his characters travel, symbolizing change, freedom, the immense power of imagination and the endless search for the beauty and meaning of life.
we hope to see you at the opening reception with the participation of the artist on November 25, 2022 at 18:30 in HALL 1 of Largo Art Gallery, 8th Han Krum Street, Varna. The exhibition runs until December 14th. The event is part of the exhibition program of Largo Art Gallery, financially supported by the National Culture Fund under the "One Year Grant" program.
