From September 18, 2022, the Belgian gallery Epreuve d'Artiste in Antwerp will present two exhibitions of graphics in partnership with the Bulgarian Largo Art Gallery. The opening reception of the two events will be on the same day and are part of the Open Ateliers program of the Municipality of Antwerp and the Antwerp Regional Cultural Council, marking the beginning of the autumn cultural season in Antwerp.
The two exhibitions are curated by Mrs. Chris Verheyen - Director of gallery Epreuve d'Artiste and Nelly Valcheva - Director of Largo Art Gallery. The first exhibition presents over 120 exlibris artworks from the four editions of the International ExLibris Competition Varna. The selection of the artworks is meant to present to the public some of the best exlibrises from the competition, the award-winning works, as well as works by most of the Bulgarian artists who participated in the competition. The two galleries started planning the exhibition back in 2019 and it was supposed to take place in the fall of 2020. Unfortunately, the global Covid- 19 pandemic forced a change in plans. Thus, the event was moved to the fall of 2022.
The second exhibition was organized by Chris Verheyen as a result of her visit in June 2022 at Largo Art Gallery in Varna. There she got acquainted with the works of dozens of Bulgarian artists working in the field of graphics. Chris was surprised and delighted by the work of artists new to her and, as a result, she proposed that, in addition to the originally agreed event, a second exhibition should be organized in parallel. In this exhibition nine contemporary Bulgarian artists will be presented with graphics and exlibrises. The artists Anna Tikhonova-Jordanova, Veselin Damyanov- VES, Dimo Milanov, Petar Chinovski, Rumen Nechev, Svetoslav Kosev, Hristo Naidenov, Julian Jordanov and Yanko Nenov received an invitation to participate in the exhibition. The show will exhibit 80 graphics and will delight the public and collectors in the next two weeks.
The opening reception is on 18 September 2022 at 14:00 at the Epreuve d'Artiste Gallery in Antwerp and will remain open to the public until 02 October 2022. The events are part of the exhibition program of Largo Art Gallery, financially supported by the National Culture Fund, Bulgaria under the programs "One-year grant" and "Program for the recovery and development of private cultural organizations".
