Dimitar Karatonev was born in 1978 in Harmanli, Bulgaria. In 1996 he graduated from the Vasil Levski Primary School in Haskovo in the "Fine Arts" class. In 2005 he graduated from the University of Veliko Tarnovo "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" with a major in "Graphics". Since 2007 he has been a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. He has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions of graphic art, including international biennials and triennials of graphics in Tokyo, Cremona, Gliwice, Napoca, Istanbul, Lodz, Buenos Aires. He has organized over 20 solo exhibitions in Kiev, Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas, Varna, Sliven, Harmanli. Dimitar has won numerous awards, some of which are: University of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulart Gallery Award for Graphics (2001), Award for Young Bulgarian Graphic Artist at the Biennial of Humor and Satire in Art, Gabrovo (2003), Diploma and Medal from the Biennale " Ex Libris ”in Poland (2007), Diploma for graphics from the Biennial“ Small Forms ”- Pleven (2008), Award for drawing at the National Biennial of Drawing - Veliko Tarnovo (2015), Third prize for graphics at the national exhibition Sirak Skitnik - Sliven (2019), Award for graphics of the biennial "Friends of the Sea" - Burgas (2020), Award for painting of the Balkan Quadrennial "Myths and legends of my people" - Stara Zagora (2020) and others. He lives and works in Harmanli.
